Slime Mother

Solo exhibition: Chapter, Cardiff 20/07/2024-06/10/2024

next showing at: Site Gallery, Sheffield, 2025

Why be a slug? Abi Palmer’s debut solo exhibition at Chapter, Cardiff creates an alternate universe where, rather than treated with disgust, slugs are worshipped. Through slime, queerness, politics of space and deeply erotic, alien mating rituals, Slime Mother invites audiences to merge and connect with this complex gastropod, and embrace its resilient strangeness. Expect to leave feeling a little more slug-like….

The exhibition will be accompanied by Slugs: a Manifesto, a new publication by Palmer, published by Makina Books.

SLIME MOTHER was made possible by a large and abundant sluggy team: Studio assistance from: Paul Eastwood, Cecily Loveys-Jervoise, Kit Falck, Leily Moghtader-Mojdehi. Glass works fabricated by Rainbow Glass Studios. SLUGS: A Manifesto was edited by Robin Silas Christian at Makina Books.

Slime Mother was commissioned by Chapter and supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England and the Henry Moore Foundation.
