In I am soft and wet and oily , a slug confronts its onlooker through a smudgy haze. I used glossy card stock, to increase the sensation of slickness between oil pastel and hand. It felt smudgy and sluggy to form,
The title comes from a line in SLUGS: A Manifesto: “My brain is thick and foggy. I am soft and wet and oily.” Same slug, same.
This work forms part of slugspaceslug: a series of small works on paper and card made in crip time, during a period of winter hibernation. Each piece explores the physics of becoming slug-like: slugs bend into strange and unusual places, or spill over into spaces in which they don't belong.
